Reconciliation Action Plan Design

How We Helped:

The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care plays a vital role in shaping health outcomes across the country. As part of their reconciliation journey, we collaborated with artist Kylie Hill to create a culturally rich and professionally designed RAP. From concept to completion, we worked closely with all parties to ensure the final design reflected cultural respect, connection, and the Commission’s long-standing commitment to improving health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

ACSQHC: Embedding Cultural Safety into Health Care through Reconciliation

Smyth Studio collaborated with the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care and proud Yuwaalaraay artist Kylie Hill to design a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) that reflects the Commission’s commitment to cultural inclusion and safer, more respectful healthcare for all.

Client Overview

The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC) works to improve the safety and quality of health care across Australia. Through national standards, policy development, and education, the Commission plays a pivotal role in shaping a healthcare system that is effective, inclusive, and continuously improving.

  • As part of its Innovate RAP, the Commission required a professionally designed document that:

    • Communicates its reconciliation commitments across the health sector.

    • Reflects a deep commitment to cultural safety, truth-telling, and partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

    • Features authentic Indigenous artwork that aligns with the Commission’s values and vision.

  • RAP Document Design: Developed a clear, accessible, and visually engaging RAP that aligns with the Commission’s national presence and professional tone. The design carefully balances formality with warmth and storytelling.

Indigenous Artwork Collaboration: Worked with Kylie Hill, a proud Yuwaalaraay woman and artist, whose artwork is featured throughout the RAP. The piece symbolises journeys of care, connection, and transformation, visually reinforcing the Commission’s commitment to safer, more inclusive healthcare practices.

Design Integration: Collaborated closely with Kylie and the ACSQHC team to ensure the artwork was honoured and thoughtfully embedded within the design, enhancing each section of the document without overwhelming key content.

  • The final RAP design strengthened the Commission’s ability to communicate its reconciliation strategy across the national health sector. The integration of Kylie Hill’s artwork added cultural depth and clarity to the narrative, resulting in a document that not only informs but also inspires.
