Shamrock Civil: Paving the Way for Reconciliation in Infrastructure
Discover how Smyth Studio collaborated with Shamrock Civil and Indigenous artist Jedess Hudson to design a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) that reflects the company’s commitment to cultural respect, inclusion, and long-term reconciliation across Australia’s civil construction sector.
Client Overview
Shamrock Civil is an established civil construction company delivering infrastructure solutions across Australia in sectors including mining, transport, defence, water, and renewables. With a strong focus on safety, innovation, and sustainability, they are also committed to building meaningful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
-
As part of their Innovate RAP, Shamrock Civil needed a visually engaging and culturally respectful document that would:
Clearly outline their reconciliation commitments and actions.
Feature authentic Indigenous artwork to represent their journey and values.
Be designed professionally for presentation to internal and external stakeholders, including government and industry partners.
-
RAP Design: Created a polished, easy-to-navigate RAP document that balances clarity with strong visual storytelling. The design reflects Shamrock Civil’s professionalism while supporting the narrative of reconciliation.
Indigenous Artwork Collaboration: Partnered with proud Ewamian and Western Yalanji artist Jedess Hudson to create custom Indigenous artwork that tells a story of connection, growth, and shared pathways forward. Smyth Studio worked collaboratively with both Jedess and the Shamrock team to ensure the artwork was respectfully integrated throughout the design.
Visual Integration: Carefully balanced the use of colour, typography, and visual hierarchy to ensure the artwork enhanced the messaging without overwhelming the content—creating a cohesive and culturally rich document.
-
The final RAP document provided Shamrock Civil with a meaningful and professional representation of their reconciliation journey. The inclusion of custom Indigenous artwork offered a powerful cultural narrative woven through the design, enhancing its impact and resonance with both Indigenous and non-Indigenous audiences.
