Smyth Studio partnered with Sharp & Carter to create Woven Wattle — a bespoke First Nations artwork celebrating connection, shared journeys and the relationships that bring people and communities together.

Beyond the artwork itself, we developed a flexible visual language and suite of individual art elements, giving Sharp & Carter the tools to carry the story meaningfully across their RAP, communications and broader organisation.

Client Overview

Sharp & Carter is an Australian recruitment and professional services business built around relationships, connection and creating positive experiences for the people and organisations they work with.

As part of their reconciliation journey, Sharp & Carter engaged Smyth Studio to develop an original artwork that could help visually express their commitment to reconciliation while creating a meaningful connection between people, place and shared opportunity.

  • Sharp & Carter needed an artwork that could represent their reconciliation journey while feeling authentic to who they are as an organisation.

    The challenge was to create something with its own meaningful story, while also developing an artwork flexible enough to live beyond a single application. It needed to work across their RAP and communications, while giving their internal team a visual language they could continue to use into the future.

  • We developed Woven Wattle as a layered visual story centred around connection, relationships and shared journeys.

    Individual elements within the artwork were created to carry their own meaning — including representations of connection, Golden Wattle and woven pathways — while collectively forming one interconnected story.

    We then extended the artwork into a broader visual system, extracting individual elements and creating a comprehensive Artwork & Story Guide. This gave Sharp & Carter a practical suite of assets and guidance for using the artwork respectfully and consistently across different applications.

  • Woven Wattle became more than a standalone artwork. It created a distinct visual language for Sharp & Carter's reconciliation journey.

    The final suite included the complete artwork, individual artwork elements, adaptable digital and vector assets, and an Artwork & Story Guide documenting the meaning behind the work.

    Together, these tools give Sharp & Carter the flexibility to carry the story across their RAP, internal communications, digital platforms and future applications while maintaining the integrity and meaning of the original artwork.
